UAM’s Premiere Drama Course

“The word theatre comes from the Greeks. It means the seeing place. It is the place people come to see the truth about life and the social situation.”
– Stella Adler

This year at UAM we are proud to present a new installment to our media program: Drama/Theatre Studies. In this class, we’ll be exploring several essential questions related to theatre. Speaking before an audience can be frightening, but it can also be very powerful. In short, our aim for the class is to be brave, honest and revealing through verbal and physical expression.

Here’s an outline for the progression of topics we’ll be exploring throughout the trimester:

1. History of Theatre
2. The Stage and Stage Directions
3. Theatre Games
4. Rehearsal/Script Analysis
5. Voice and Body
6. Monologues in performance
7. Actions/Acting Objectives
8. Scene Work
9. Ensemble Work
10. Reflection and Criticism

Since this is a theatre class, students are expected to perform for the class. The basis for the art of acting is delving deep into the emotional well. Dare to explore a side of yourself that you never expected to find. Three performance “products” amount to a media presentation representing our work here. These performances include Monologues, Duet Scenes, and Ensemble Work.

We look forward to an outstanding year!
